Current Council

Council consists of a Mayor and 12 Councillors - one from each of the District's wards.

The current Council was elected in October 2007. Council elections are held on a three-yearly basis, with the next in October 2010.

The Council is responsible for representing the District, developing and approving Council policy, deciding on expenditure and funding requirements, monitoring Council performance and employing the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive, in turn, employs all other staff.
