What Council Does

The Southland District Council is responsible for the day-to-day running of its many communities - looking after water, wastewater, stormwater, rubbish, animal control, cemeteries, environmental health, libraries, parks and reserves and roading.

Through its regulatory services, such as building control and resource management, Council ensures standards are met and the environment looked after.

Council's guiding principle is People First. That means Council is continually considering how best to meet the needs of its ratepayers and residents, as well as thinking about economic, social, cultural and environmental needs.
