Getting things done in your community

Council’s community leadership team is all about relationships. It is the link between Council and our communities. The team was formed to build relationships with people throughout Southland District and to make sure community views are heard when Council is carrying out its work.

There are six members in the community leadership team – three community partnership leaders and three community liaison officers. They work with all the other teams in Council to ensure community views are considered in Council projects and they help to explain Council decisions to the public.

The community partnership leaders help Council’s nine community boards to achieve the outcomes they want for the communities they represent. They help communities to connect with agencies that can help them at a local, District, regional and national level. They also consider emerging issues that may have an impact on communities.

The community liaison officers work alongside community organisations outside the structure of Council, as well as providing advice and assistance to communities around governance matters, grants, funding support and allocations.
