Media advisory: Milford update, rural help

News item information

Milford airport remains operational

This is an official message from the Emergency Management Southland.

The Milford airport is open for fixed wing and helicopter flights.

“Having the airport open during the regional state of emergency will greatly assist the recovery effort and mean commercial tourism operations will be able to use it to access Milford,” said Southland Emergency Management Controller Bruce Halligan.

“Having the airport open means we can get supplies in to staff at Milford as well as materials to help the recovery to support people in the area.

“Tourism operators will be required to use the airport in accordance with the conditions of their concessions and consents, and Civil Aviation Authority conditions.

Highway 94 to Milford remains closed for the foreseeable future.
