Media release: SDC Council-owned facilities to temporarily close
News item information
In response to the Government’s move to alert level four regarding the coronavirus outbreak, Southland District Council offices and the majority of community facilities will temporarily close.
Chief executive Steve Ruru advised this would include SDC’s Forth Street premises from 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 24 March) and playgrounds throughout the District.
All area offices and libraries closed at the end of last week.
The majority of toilet facilities will remain open, except Lions Park in Te Anau, Orepuki, Monkey Island and Cosy Nook.
“These are extraordinary times we are facing collectively as a District and a nation and we all have an important role to play to help combat this virus,” Mr Ruru said.
“Our team of staff will continue to work remotely from home and I want to reassure our community all essential services will be maintained, including access to the likes of our water and waste team in an emergency situation.”
SDC remained contactable at all times across a range of platforms, including email (firstname.lastname@example.org), phone (0800 732 732) and via the Southland District Council Facebook page.
“Protecting our staff and community is our number one priority and the measures enforced by the Government reflect the seriousness of this situation,” Mr Ruru said.
“We encourage all Southlanders to follow the protocols soon to be in place, stay safe and be kind to one another.”
