Local government official information requests

Council holds a variety of information. Under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, information is to be made available unless there is a good reason to withhold it which is set down in the Act.

How do I access this information?

  • Contact Council and ask for the specific information you want
  • your request will be answered within 20 working days
  • you will need to provide your contact address and phone number
  • for personal information you will need to provide proof of your identity.

There may be a charge for information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act if the time taken to gather it is longer than four hours. However, you will be informed of this and asked if you want us to continue with the request. Please note there is no charge for personal information under the Privacy Act.

Sometimes information will be withheld by Council. Staff will tell you why and how to contact the Ombudsman's Office or Privacy Commissioner if you are not happy with the decision.
