‘Lost but not forgotten’ panel to be updated

Southland District Council staff have been updating the "Lost But Not Forgotten" panel at Lynwood Cemetery, Te Anau.

The sign is the result of years of painstaking research by Merv Halliday, who first came up with the idea to put up a memorial to all of those who have lost their lives in Fiordland and whose bodies have never been recovered.

The panel covers a list of names dating back to the 1800s. The current updates have been prompted by people coming forward with further information after the panel first went up a year ago.

Now we need your help. If you know of people who have gone missing or who have lost their lives in Fiordland, please check to see if they are listed on the panel [PDF, 3.3 MB] and let us know if we have missed anyone by phoning 0800 732 732.
