Dog control amnesty
Southland District Council is running a dog control amnesty from Monday 12 February 2018 until Friday 13 April 2018.
This amnesty applies to dogs that are ordinarily kept in the District but are not currently registered.
- Free registration of unregistered dogs until the current registration period ends on 30 June.
- Free microchipping of your dog.
- Any menacing breeds registered through the amnesty will be desexed for free. There are five breeds that are required to be classified as menacing dog: American pit bull terriers types, Brazilian Fila, Dogo Argentino, Japanese Tosa, and Perro de presa Canario.
The amnesty does not apply to dogs that were registered during the year ending June 2017, and have not yet been re-registered.
To take advantage of the amnesty, owners will need to fill out a registration form at a Council office before Friday 13 April.
