The community housing that Southland District Council provides, enables eligible residents to remain living in their local community.

Eligibility

  • units will be let primarily to persons being 60 years of age and older, or to those other persons that are considered to be in need of community housing
  • in the event of there being more than one person to be considered for placement, it shall be decided by order of priority
  • where a unit has been vacant for two months and there is no known demand from those priority persons, then the unit may be let to any person, provided that the person is considered appropriate to be placed in a community housing environment.

Rental reviews

Rental for all community housing properties will be reviewed on an annual basis. Please refer to the Southland District Council’s Schedule of Fees and Charges for the current rental charges.

How to apply

Please download a housing application using the link below and email the completed form to sdc@southlanddc.govt.nz or drop it off at your nearest Southland District Council office. 

You can also pick up a form from your local Southland District Council office. Our offices are located in Invercargill, Lumsden, Otautau, Riverton, Te Anau, Winton, and Wyndham.
