Among key features of the draft bylaw:

  • Some towns will prohibit non self-contained freedom camping in selected areas
  • Some towns will have new designated sites for self-contained camping
  • The Waikawa Domain freedom camping site will become self-contained only
  • New default rules
  • It conforms with the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association Model Bylaw

Submissions have closed and will be considered by Council on 27 October.

The draft bylaw was written with input from a public survey. The results of that survey are available here (external link)
