Free internet, WiFi, and computer access

Southland District Libraries provides free computing and Internet access via the Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa (APNK). Free WiFi access is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at all branches. APNK desktop PCs are available for customer use and have a range of software installed: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Publisher, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Skype, Adobe Acrobat reader, GIMP, FreeMind and more. Each APNK PC has a DVD/CD drive, USB ports, memory card slots and a webcam.

Interlibrary loans

Having trouble finding exactly what you want? Southland District Libraries is part of the national Interlibrary Loan scheme. This means that we can track down almost any book for you – even if it’s not held in Southland. Interlibrary Loan requests attract a small charge. You can place requests at any branch, by email, or over the phone.

Classes & events

Southland District Libraries offers a range of classes, group sessions, and events for all ages and abilities. From Wriggle and Rhyme active movement and school holiday programmes, to Stepping Up computer classes and author visits, there’s sure to be something to entertain and inform you. Personalised recommendations

Our experienced staff are happy to help you find your next favourite book (or DVD, app, audiobook, magazine, etc). Personalised recommendations are available to members at all Library branches and online<link>. Membership at Southland District Libraries also gives you access to the Who Else Writes Like…? and Who Next…? online author discovery services — you can find them by going to our Digital Library page.

Mobile library

Southland District Libraries provides a Mobile Library service. Operating on a four-weekly schedule, the Mobile Library covers nearly 40 stops across the district. The Mobile Library offers a selection of fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults, as well as large print, audio books, jigsaws, and magazines for all ages. Staff can take requests for items not on the bus and deliver them as they become available.

Copy Centre: Scanning, Photocopying, Printing, Faxing and Laminating*

Southland District Library branches are equipped with multi-function devices which support scanning, copying, printing, faxing and emailing. Staff are trained to assist with your Copy Centre needs. Price lists for these services are available at each branch.
