Borrowing

Borrowing from Southland District libraries is free. Most items issue for four weeks; some high-demand items issue for two weeks. You will need your library card to borrow items. If you don’t have a library card, you can apply for one here.

Overdue, damaged and lost items

Southland District Libraries are fine-free. However, we do encourage you to return your items on time, or renew them. If an item is overdue for six weeks, it becomes ‘Lost’, and you will be charged the replacement cost. If you damage or lose an item, please let us know. You will be charged the replacement cost of the damaged or lost item.

Interlibrary loan

Books not held by any Southland District Library can usually be obtained from another New Zealand library at a cost of $10.
