Southland District Libraries presents Maxine and Majella

Join us to hear from two award-winning New Zealand authors.

Recipients of the Dan Davin Literary Foundation Writer in Residence, Maxine Alterio and Majella Cullinane are eager to connect with readers during their time in Invercargill.

Maxine is a novelist, short story writer and academic mentor. Her bestselling novels include Ribbons of Grace (2007), which was shortlisted for the Nielsen BookData New Zealand Booksellers’ Choice Award, and Lives We Leave Behind (2012). Her third novel The Gulf Between was released in April 2019. 

Originally from Ireland, Majella has lived in New Zealand since 2008. She has published two poetry collections, Guarding the Flame (2011) and Whisper of a Crow’s Wing (2018) which was chosen as one of ten Best Poetry Books of 2018 in the New Zealand Listener. She won the Caselberg International Prize for Poetry in 2017.

Her debut novel The Life of De’Ath was shortlisted for the 2016 Dundee International Book Prize and the 2018 New Zealand Heritage Book Award and longlisted for the 2019 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards for Fiction.
