Catlins Alternative Coastal Route

Road works and closures on the Catlins Alternative Coastal Route are listed in the table below.

Please keep a look out for these and take care when travelling through work sites.

Road Works & Restrictions

Slope Point road

Slope Point road is sealed and open to traffic. A temporary speed limit of 50kmh is in place as the seal has loose chip on the surface and there are no road markings.

Otara-Haldane-Curio Bay Road

The last 1.1km section of Haldane-Curio Bay Road (Catlins Alternative Coastal Route) at the Curio Bay end will be closed for two working weeks for earthworks to be carried out, starting on Monday 30 July 2018.

The road will be closed from Monday 30 July to Friday 3 August, and Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August.
It was previously advised that the road would be closed for five working days, but the work will take longer to complete.

The road will reopen over the weekend of 4 and 5 August.

Road closures will be signposted, and alternative detour routes will be available via Tokanui. Drivers should allow for extra travel time.

Please feel free to forward this update to any contacts you think might be affected.
