Do your best for your dogs

We love that you love your dogs.
Why not do the best you can to make sure you and your furry friends can enjoy the benefits of being registered with Southland District Council?
Did you know that SDC has a range of discounts available to encourage responsible ownership, reduce the number of unwanted dogs in the district and limit incidents of aggression?
Responsible owners can register a dog for as little as $50, if it’s microchipped and all the available discounts apply. In other words, it can cost you less than $1 a week to register your dog each year. Did we mention we’ll microchip your dog for free?
This year SDC also switched to “one tag for life”, which gives you a unique identification number for the life of your dog – more convenient and better for the environment.
If your registered and microchipped dog gets loose and one of our friendly animal control officers finds it, they can identify it instantly and will give you a call to let you know where you can pick it up.
Our team prefers personal contact. The pound is our last resort, and we don’t want you to have to pay more than you have to.
We know that people are leading busy and stressful lives and sometimes we forget things like re-registering our dogs. If you’ve missed the 1 August deadline unfortunately you’re already up for a 50% penalty.
That’s why we’re reminding you, and encouraging you, to get it done before 9 September, because if your dog is not registered by then you’ll be facing a $300 fine.
You don’t want that, and we don’t want to have to do that to you.
Do the right thing and register your dog today.
