What is climate change?

Climate change is the biggest challenge facing humanity. From sea-level rise to increased flood, landslide and drought risks; climate change is posing dangerous widespread damages and losses to human lives, assets and ecosystems that we depend on. Vulnerable communities and ecosystems are being hardest hit, and impacts are increasing.

Following New Zealand’s climate change policy and statutory framework, Southland District Council is taking a leading role, working together with the central government agencies, mana whenua, other councils of the region, the private sector and our communities to reduce emissions and increase climate resilience of communities.
