What are rates?

Council charges rates and fees to pay for the many activities and services it provides. Council charges fees for specific services that individuals use, such as building inspections, resource consent applications, burials and dog licensing. Property owners in the Southland District pay rates annually charged on a per property basis. A copy of Council’s current fees schedule can be found on our fees and charges page.
